IVF abroad for a baby hope

IVF abroad for a baby hope

In vitro fertilization or microinjection (IVF/ICSI) is a fertility treatment in which sperms and eggs are combined in special laboratory conditions and the obtained embryos are transferred to the woman's uterus, where they will implant and grow into a baby.

IVF can help you get pregnant if you have different problems such as anovulation or bad egg quality, blocked tubes, endometriosis, and also if your partner has decreased sperm count or motility. IVF treatment may also be a good option if everything seems normal and all other simple treatments have been failed. This is called “unexplained infertility”.

Let us give you some more detailed information about IVF treatment;

What is IVF treatment?

During IVF, eggs are removed from the woman's ovaries and fertilised with sperms in a laboratory. The fertilised eggs, called embryo, are then returned to the woman’s womb to grow and develop.

The summary of timeline for IVF treatment is as follows:

Ovary stimulation.

For 8 to 10 days beginning at second or the third day of your menstrual cycle, you will have gonadotropin self-injection, a type of fertility drug that stimulates your ovaries to develop multiple mature eggs. Normally, a woman produces one egg per month. Fertility drugs tell the ovaries to produce several eggs. You also need to take another synthetic drug like antagonist to control the growth and keep your body from releasing the eggs too early (premature ovulation).

Follicle development.

While taking these medications, you will be visiting our clinic every two to three days to have your blood hormone (estradiol) levels checked and transvaginal ultrasound measurements of your ovaries done. This allows us to monitor the development of the follicles– the fluid-filled sacs where eggs get matured.

The final trigger shot.

When the follicles are ready after 8 to 10 days, you will get a “trigger shot,” an injection that causes the eggs to mature fully and become capable of being fertilized. About 36 hours after your trigger shot, your eggs are ready to be retrieved.

Gathering the eggs.

Your doctor will give you a general anaesthetic and insert an ultrasound probe through your vagina to look at your ovaries and identify the follicles. A thin needle is then inserted through the vaginal wall to remove the eggs from the follicles. In average, 8 to 12 eggs are usually retrieved from the women between 30–35 years of age. You may have some light cramping and spotting for a few days afterwards, but most women feel better in a day or two.

Fertilization.

An embryologist (a scientist who is specialized in eggs, sperms, and embryos) will examine your eggs before combining them with your partner’s sperm and incubating them overnight. Fertilization usually happens during this time. If sperms’ quality is poor, or if fertilization was unsuccessful during previous IVF trials, we may prefer using a technique called intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). With ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into each mature egg. We do not charge the patients extra for ICSI.

Developing embryos in lab conditions.

After 3 days following the egg-retrieval, some of the eggs which were successfully fertilized become 6 to 10-cell embryos. By the fifth day, some of these embryos will become blastocysts with a fluid-filled cavity and tissues that are beginning to separate into placenta and baby.

Embryo selection.

The embryologist will select the most viable embryo or embryos to place in your uterus 3 to 5 days after the egg retrieval. Extra embryos, if there are any, may be frozen and used for future IVF cycles.

Transferring the embryos.

Depending on your age and diagnosis, your doctor will place 1 or 2 embryos in your uterus by inserting a thin tube (catheter) through your cervix. Anaesthesia is not usually necessary for this. In our Centre, we prefer to transfer 2 good–quality (day 5) embryos to women younger than 40 years of age because transferring more than 2, increases the multiple pregnancy rate without increasing the pregnancy rate significantly.

Successful implantation.

If the treatment works, an embryo implants in your uterine wall and continues to grow into a baby. Keep in mind that if more than one embryo is transferred, your chance of pregnancy is higher, but so are the odds of having a multiple pregnancy – about 20% of babies born through IVF are twins.

You can take a pregnancy test about ten days after the embryos are placed into your uterus.

How long will IVF take?

It generally takes about 15 to 20 days to complete one cycle of IVF.

You have to wait about 10 days for your eggs to mature. Afterwards, you and your partner spend about half a day in our Clinic having your eggs retrieved and fertilized. You will come again 3 to 5 days later to have the embryos inserted into your uterus, but you’ll be able to go to your residence the same day and to your home country on the next day.

What’s the success rate for IVF?

The outcomes of IVF vary greatly, depending on each couple’s reasons for infertility and their ages. Younger women usually have healthier eggs and higher success rates. Based on recent data of our Clinic, the percentage of IVF cycles resulting in a clinical pregnancy (in which one or more babies with healthy heart beats are observed) is about:

68 % for women younger than 30 years old.

57 % for women 30 to 35

40 % for women 36 to 40

22 % for women 41 to 43

7 % for women 44 to 45

What does IVF cost?

In the United States, for example, you would expect to spend an average of 10,000 to 15,000 USD for one cycle of IVF if you’re using your own eggs and your partner’s sperms. The amount you’ll pay depends on how much medicine you will need, where you live, and whether your state mandates insurance coverage for fertility treatments. If your insurance doesn’t cover them, you’ll probably have to pay the entire cost in advance.

Similarly, for the British couples, who are not covered by the NHS, the average cost for IVF is around £ 4500 to £ 5000 or even higher.

In our Centre, we offer our IVF treatment at a cost of almost half to one third of these prices including the 20 days–accommodation in a fully furnished flat and Hospital Airport transfers. You can be assured that there are no hidden cost(s) for the treatments in our Centre.
