‘What is not in the Bundle?’ is the question that must be decoded before the couple signs the Surrogacy Contract. Most of the Ukrainian IVF clinics and Surrogacy Agencies list the extra costs for every Surrogacy program. Hidden extra fees are usually decoded as every couple learns every Surrogacy Bundle before purchasing it. Surrogacy Bundles’ ‘tech specifications’ include not only the complete list of medical services, Diagnostic Tests, medication, and Protocols configurable with the current program but also extra fees charged in case of failure, medical failure or unexpected consequences. 1. ‘What is in my basic Surrogacy Bundle?’

2. ‘What is not included in my basic Surrogacy Bundle?’

  • The TESA technique fee for Sperm Collection starts at 1000 EUR per trial. This fee is not included either in ‘’Standard’ or in ‘Premium’ Surrogacy Bundle, thus, charged as an extra fee. 
  • Vitrification and Storage for the remaining embryonic cohort are usually included both in ‘Standard’ and ‘Premium’ Surrogacy Bundles covering both the Vitrification and Storage up to 12 months. But if it is not included, the couple can purchase the ‘Embryo Vitrification and Storage’ Bundle at the basic cost of 300 EUR per year. 
  • Cryopreservation and Sperm Storage basically must be included in every Surrogacy package. In several cases this option is not added as the basic one, thus, the couple should purchase it at a basic cost of 200 EUR for the Sperm Vitrification and Storage for 12 months. The same fee is charged for the Sperm Storage by the most Ukrainian IVF clinics and Surrogacy Agencies after the 12th month. 
  • NIPT Noninvasive Prenatal Testing or Noninvasive Prenatal Screening (NIPS) can be done in the first trimester to detect chromosome aneuploidies in the fetus. The basic fee for this screening is 500 EUR.  
  • Medical insurance for the surrogate mother Bundle that involves the consultations, Diagnostic Screening, medication, medical service, pregnancy care, staying at the hospital if the Gestational Carrier has the pregnancy complications is not available for purchasing. The fee depends on the type of complication or disease and the Treatment Protocol and duration of staying at the hospital. 
  • C–section delivery fee that involves medication, C–section delivery and the compensation for the Gestational Carrier is charged as an extra fee. Cesarean section is done in cases when the natural delivery entails risks for the Gestational Carrier’s and fetus’s lives. The standard C–section delivery fee is 1000 EUR. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package. 
  • Twin pregnancy fee is charged from the couple if the Gestational Carrier got pregnant and delivered two newborn Bundles. This fee is paid to the IVF clinic, Surrogacy Agency or surrogate mom according to Surrogacy contract terms and conditions. In Ukraine, this fee is 4000 EUR.
  • The Embryo Reduction fee for multiple pregnancies is not covered by the ‘Standard’ Surrogacy package. The Embryo Reduction Bundle’s cost starts at 600 EUR. This fee covers the medication for the Gestational Carrier, Embryo Reduction procedure, and medical services. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package.
  • The pregnancy termination fee is 2000 EUR. This fee is charged as an extra fee if serious anomalies are detected into the fetus or the fertility Pro detected the intrauterine fetal death. This fee starts at 2000 EUR. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package. 
  • Uterus loss fee, Fallopian tube loss fee (tubal loss fee) are charged as extra fees. Uterus loss fee starts at 2000 EUR. The same fee is designed for the tubal loss — 2000 EUR. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package. 
  • Surgical intervention fee is the compensation paid to the surrogate mother for surgical interventions that are performed during pregnancy and childbirth because of pregnancy or childbirth complications. This fee starts at 1000 EUR for one surgery and covers the Gestational Carrier’s compensation. Sometimes this fee covers urgent surgery expenses and medication (if the minimally invasive surgery was done). This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package. 
  • The Miscarriage fee is paid if the Gestational Carrier’s pregnancy resulted in a Miscarriage. This fee also covers the dilation and curettage procedure that is performed by a fertility Pro if the intrauterine embryonic or fetal death is detected or the Gestational Carrier has the complications entailed by the miscarriage. This fee starts at 1000 EUR. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package. 
  • Ectopic pregnancy fee is paid if the Gestational Carrier’s pregnancy resulted in the ectopic. This fee covers the urgent surgery and the Gestational Carrier’s compensation. Routinely, the ectopic pregnancy fee starts at 500 EUR. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package. 
  • Additional repeated Embryo Transfer using vitrified embryos (Embryo Thawing and Embryo Transfer) fee starts at 1500 EUR. This fee covers the Gestational Carrier’s preparation, medication, Embryo Thawing, Embryo Transfer, and compensation for the Gestational Carrier for Embryo Transfer. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package. 
  • Additional IVF–ICSI/IMSI/PISCI with own oocytes, including the preparation of a surrogate mother with complete Diagnostic Screening, medication, Controlled Ovarian Stimulation of the intended mother, Oocyte Retrieval, one IVF–ICSI/IMSI/PISCI trial, fresh Embryo Transfer, and pregnancy tests (blood test, urine test, ultrasound scan) fee starts at 4000 EUR. This fee does not cover the PGD for newly generated embryos. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package and has one, two or three more IVF–ICSI/IMSI/PISCI trials left. 
  • Additional 4th trial of IVF–ICSI/IMSI/PISCI cycle (in case no embryos are left for the Embryo Transfer) without PGD basic fee starts at 6 500 EUR.
  • Additional IVF–ICSI/IMSI/PISCI with the donor’s oocytes, including the preparation of a surrogate mother with complete Diagnostic Screening, medication, Controlled Ovarian Stimulation of the oocyte donor, Oocyte Retrieval, one IVF–ICSI/IMSI/PISCI trial, fresh Embryo Transfer, and pregnancy tests (blood test, urine test, ultrasound scan) fee starts at 4500 EUR. This fee does not cover the PGD for newly generated embryos. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package ‘Tandem Oocyte cycle’ that involves Egg Donation, and has one, two or three more IVF–ICSI/IMSI/PISCI trials left. 
  • Selection of the new Gestational Carrier on the couple’s demand or on the fertility Pro demand if the previous trial failed would cost the couple around 800–1000 EUR. This fee covers the new Gestational Carrier’s selection, Diagnostic Screening, and testing, issuing and notarizing the new Surrogacy contract. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package.
  • Neonatal screening test for serious diseases (heel prick blood test) fee is 80 EUR for one newborn Bundle. This blood test detects the serious diseases that may interfere with the newborn’s life. 
  • Staying in a maternity hospital/clinic/clinic’s or hospital’s apartment after three days is charged as an extra cost. The basic fee per night varies from 30 EUR to 60 EUR for the couple. 
  • NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit) fees are charged as extras in case of preterm delivery. The ‘Standard’ Surrogacy Bundle does not cover the NICU fees. The ‘Pro’ Surrogacy package may cover up to 30 days of preterm newborn staying in the NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit). If the newborn Bundle has been born prematurely and the Surrogacy package doesn’t cover staying in Ukrainian NICU, the basic fee for one–night stay is 250–350 EUR. 
  • Some Ukrainian IVF clinics and Surrogacy Agencies offer to ‘configure’ the NICU Bundle (Newborn Intensive Care Unit package) with the basic Surrogacy package before the 12–16th week of the Gestational Carrier’s pregnancy at a cost 4000–5000 EUR per newborn. This fee adds tons of capacity as it ‘books’ the NICU incubator for the preterm newborn, the medication, the neonatal care, the medical services, and personal Neonatologist. 
  • The ‘waiting’ fee is paid to the Gestational Carrier who is waiting to participate in the program without medical reasons (on the couple’s demand). The basic ‘waiting’ fee is charged every month and is approximately 200 EUR per month. 
  • Umbilical cord fee covers the collection and storage of the newborn’s umbilical cord blood. Umbilical cord blood stem cells will be stored at the laboratory for future use. The basic fee starts at 500 EUR. 
  • The DNA test fee for the one newborn (optional, an independent laboratory accredited in the intended patient’s country’s embassy) starts at 750 EUR. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package.
  • The DNA test to confirm paternity, which the Embassy may additionally require (in unexpected cases) fee for one newborn Bundle varies from country to country. 
  • Issuing and notarizing the papers confirming pregnancy with translation and apostille (on the couple’s demand) that is used in extreme cases by the wife for the adoption of the child (if something happens to the biological father, then his wife will be able to adopt a child) basic fee starts at 450 EUR. This fee is not charged if the couple selected the Pro Surrogacy package.
  • If, after the start of the program, the couple did not come to the clinic for the collection of reproductive material at the appointed time, the program restoring fee — 3000 EUR is charged as an extra fee. 
  • Lawyer services (extra services required by the couple’s home country or Embassy) basic fees cannot be estimated. 
  • Baby care services are not included in the ‘Standard’ Surrogacy package. Usually, the couple is charged 5 EUR per hour for baby care services. The Premium Surrogacy Bundle usually includes baby care services for up to 2 months.
  • Newborn essentials are not included in the ‘Standard’ Surrogacy package. The ‘Gold’ Surrogacy package can include the newborn essentials.
