In the general one it is considered that both the woman and the man contribute with 40 % of the cases of infertility, 10 % is a mixed causes (masculine and feminine) and 10 % remaining he does not present any definite cause, being called then an infertility without apparent cause (BAIT).

It is considered an infertility when a couple, in the period of a year, maintaining regular sexual relations and without the use of any contraceptive method, does not manage to get pregnant. Important to emphasize that this period must be reduced for 6 months when the woman has age equal or superior to 35 years.

According to data of the World-wide Organization of the Health (WHO), nearly 15 % of the couples in reproductive age presents difficulties to get pregnant. In other words, one between each six Brazilian couples, they present fertility problems and for their 20 % the only way of obtaining gestation is through techniques of Assisted Reproduction.

This number has been increasing significantemente in the last years owing to the changes in the priorities of the couple, because men and women have been investing much time in his academic and professional life, and consequently postponing the plans in having children.

Fortunately at present the medicine disposes of modern and safe techniques for the diagnosis and treatments of infertility. The choice of a determined treatment will depend on the cause of the infertility revealed after the realization of series of examinations and also of the age of the woman. It is known that the most important petulant factor in the success of any treatment of infertility is the age of the woman.
