The origins of the Reproductive Medicine Unit of the Monteblanco Clinic go back to the beginning of the nineties when Dr. Ricardo Pommer, after having obtained his fellow in reproductive endocrinology and infertility from the University of Chile, joined the Unit of Reproductive Medicine of Clínica Las Nieves. Later, Dr. José Balmaceda joined this same unit, who in 1984 in the United States was behind the creation of the GIFT technique (Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer). While in the eighties Dr. Balmaceda promoted in the United States the creation of the Reproductive Medicine Unit of the University of California Irvine and the Reproductive Medicine Unit of the Sadel Back Hospital in Orange California, Dr. Pommer also did his thing in Chile. Under the dream of being able to give all people access to infertility treatment, the current Director of the UMR of the Monteblanco Clinic promoted, under the auspices of the University of Chile, the creation of IDIMI. To this day, this place is the only public reproductive medicine center that exists in the country.
