BSGE Annual Scientific Meeting 2017 18th – 19th May, Hull

‘WHERE ARE WE NOW AND WHERE ARE WE GOING…’

Welcome to Hull!

Welcome to Hull. We look forward to an exciting meeting for the BSGE in the 2017 City of Culture. The central city venue of the City Hall and the quality of the meeting should make it a great success, but it is your participation which will be the most important factor. We have a theme of what is happening now in the world of Gynaecological Endoscopy, both the cutting edge and what we feel all our patients deserve. We still have laparoscopic hysterectomy rates in this country which fall well below those of our European neighbours, but the BSGE is working on a programme to make the laparoscopic approach the default approach. This amongst others will be fully outlined at the meeting. Please see the provisional programme. There will be a chance to meet the experts and to see the way they manage difficult situations, their tips and tricks will undoubtedly help when you find yourself debating the safest thing to do during a procedure. For the paramedics the programme will include answers to some of the questions posed by the hysteroscopy and endometriosis nurses from previous meetings as well as a high level discussion on how to get your jobs and the banding recognised within your trusts. We have pre-congress workshops (17th May) organised to ensure  that your skills both practically and from a negotiating point of view are the best they can be.

I am sure you will all find the something within the meeting and with our sponsors of real value, with this in mind I welcome you to Hull in May (17–19th) 2017.

BSGE Main conference progamme

The main conference programme will be held in the dedicated conference centre will state of the art presentation equipment and repeater monitor displays.

BSGE Nurse conference programme

The nurse programme is open to all delegates and has a mixture of excellent presentations which will be of interest to all attendees, nurses and doctors alike.  The programme has been specifically designed by the Paramedic portfolio lead, Gill Smith, with help and support from several endometriosis specialist nurses and hysteroscopy nurses.  It is expected to cover the needs of these specialist nurses training, and the BSGE would be grateful to receive suggestions for topics to be included in next years ASM in Edinburgh.

The programme will run on Thursday 18th May and is available here.  There are complimentary presentations on the main programme on Friday 19th May which will also be of interest to specialist nurses.  We hope you enjoy the conference and wish to work will all specialist nurses to develop a useful training package at each and every BSGE ASM, so please get involved by supplying ideas to Gill Smith and her colleagues.

Pre–Congress Masterclasses

Wednesday, 17th May at Hull Royal Infirmary

To be held on Wednesday, 17th May 2017 in the Clinical Skills Centre, Hull Royal Infirmary.

Hull Royal Infirmary is a central city hospital 5 minutes from the railway station, 10 minutes from the City Hall on foot. There is public parking opposite.

Simulation in gynaecological surgery, factors which can make the difference. This will include scenarios, when something happens what do you and the team do? And  human factors training. This will be run by Dr Purva Makani Deputy CMO and Simulation training officer, Hull Royal Infirmary. 20-30 delegates.

Hysteroscopy simulation training –– The hysteroscopy workshop is an opportunity to get simulation training for operative hysteroscopic procedures. It will includes a couple of presentations on outpatient hysteroscopy procedures and then workshops covering endometrial resections, ESSURE, ablation procedures and Myosure. Making laparoscopic surgery happen and be financially viable in the modern NHS. This will include sessions on what surgeons want, what managers want and what companies want, different contract possibilities and how you bring all these possibilities together to present the case in your hospital 20-30 delegates.  Kevin Phillips.

Laparoscopic Suturing Skills: SUT+T

Objectives:

Back by popular demand, it is our great pleasure to invite you to train and test your laparoscopic suturing skills during a one-day workshop organized in collaboration with the European Academy of Gynaecological Surgery and the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE). This is a brand new and improved laparoscopic suturing workshop being rolled out for the first time at the BSGE meeting in Hull.

The workshop consists of different validated, exercises performed on pelvic-trainers followed by the opportunity to test your skills using the SUT+T method (suturing training and testing). Individual scores are immediately logged into the on line Academy Scoring Platform which participants will be invited to register for. This provides individuals with a personal progress report, where results are compared to benchmarked data and expressed using a colour coded system. A generated report for each individual will allocate their scores to beginners (code red), advanced (code yellow) and expert (code green) levels. This is only a test but serves as the foundation for the European Certification and Diploma Programme.

During this session, participants will also be trained in laparoscopic suturing. Each participant will be individually coached to perform different exercises. This includes needle manipulation, running sutures, intra-corporeal knotting and tissue approximation using dominant and non-dominant hand. These exercises are used to train and test the suturing skills of an individual and serves as a foundation for completion of SUT+T 1 and SUT+T 2 assessment. Training will be specifically individualised according to each participant’s ability and we welcome both beginners and more accomplished laparoscopic surgeons.

An exciting prize will be awarded to the top score achieved in the validated SUT+T assessment Target Group:

•        Trainees and Consultants interested in laparoscopic surgery or wishing to develop laparoscopic suturing techniques.

•         Trainees wishing to develop practical skills required for completion of the Benign Abdominal Surgery and advanced laparoscopic ATSM.

•              Trainees and Consultants keen to embark on the validated GESEA certification in operative laparoscopy.

A structured certification program to recognize your laparoscopic skills is now within reach. Hurry to register as places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
