It is a great pleasure to be hosting the 19th Annual British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society conference in the cosmopolitan city of Amsterdam. The conference will take place at the Beurs van Berlage in the heart of this vibrant European city. The event couldn’t be more centrally located, just a 5 minute walk from Amsterdam’s Central train station which serves as a hub for both European and worldwide travel (Schiphol International Airport is just a 15 minute train journey away). This state of the art venue has a rich history and unique architecture providing the perfect backdrop to our first meeting to be held outside of the UK. We are extremely excited to be bringing BMFMS 2017 to mainland Europe, opening it up to a larger and more diverse audience while still keeping its technical focus.

With over 600 registered delegates already, Amsterdam is shaping up to be our most successful annual conference to date. With only 3 weeks to go I wanted to draw your attention to a few additions to our usual format.

1. Parallel oral abstract presentations. Due to the number of excellent abstracts submitted twice the usual number will be presented in parallel sessions.

2. Trainee Symposium. Aimed at discussing rare but important cases with the experts, these will help trainees gain accredited competencies for their log books in peripartum cardiomyopathy in the super morbidly obese parturient,

myasthenia gravis exacerbation in pregnancy, CHAOS in a monochorionic twin pregnancy, lethal skeletal dysplasia, 26 week uterine rupture following an abruption with placenta previa and a rare case of uterine inversion!

3. Simulation Centre. Stations run by experts in their field will allow hands-on practice in post partum haemorrhage, cervical dilatation, Kiwi vacuum delivery, delivery of the impacted head at caesarean section, amniocentesis and CVS, computerized simulation for transabdominal and transcervical scanning and the latest simulator for laser therapy in TTTS.

4. Late breaking session. This has just been confirmed and will cover the 100,00 Genome project, proteinuria testing in PET – the DAPPA trial, the effect of tranexamic acid in post partum haemorrhage – the WOMAN trial and an update on the StAmP trial of statins for the prevention of early onset PET.
