About Laparoscopy Dr.shobhana Mohandas
Dr.Shobhana Mohandas is a practising laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeon at Sun Medical Centre Thrissur, Kerala
She post graduated from Grant Medical College Mumbai, in 1986,where she learnt the nuances of diagnostic laparoscopy. Almost since the inception of operative laparoscopy in India, i.e. in the nineties, she started specialising in operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy , in 1995.
Totally more than about 2000 laparoscopic surgeries have been performed by her. Her conversion rate to laparotomy is not very high. Large uterus almost about 800 gm to 1 kg have also been removed laparoscopically. Patients with history of many previous surgeries have also undergone laparoscopy under her care.
Patients with chronic abdominal pain can also get relief from laparoscopy through cauterisation of endometriotic implants, adhesiolysis, etc.
Hysteroscopic removal of fibroids and polyps have been done in more than 50 patients succesfully.
She has treated women with recurrent abortions succesfully. many women , with history of 3-4 abortions (Highest H/O 8 abortions) have succesfully carried to term under her care.
She is a good orator and has been invited to give talks on laparoscopy, menopause, recurrent abortions etc at many venues.
She has also contributed articles to many gynaecology books.
