San Carlo Center

The Reproductive Medicine Unit of the San Carlo Clinical Center for Assisted Fertilization and Gynecology was born in 1986 as a specific research branch within the Institute of Obstetric-Gynecological Psychosomatics in Turin.

Starting from original research in Psycho-neuroendocrinology and Reproduction by illustrious scientists worldwide such as Henry Laborit, first honorary President of our Institute, and other important figures of gynecologists, biologists, psychotherapists, geneticists, andrologists, he proposed himself through the activity of for many years an innovative model to deal effectively, free from prejudices, with the problems of the infertile couple.

This model takes the utmost account of:

-the relationship between stress and hormones that regulate sexuality and reproduction.Reproductive function in men and women directly depends on the pulsed secretion of the hypothalamic hormone releasing Gn-Rh gonadotropins. If there is a marked reduction in Gn-Rh secretion due to a persistent stressful situation, the pituitary production of follicle stimulating (FSH) and luteinizing (LH) hormones is impaired. In women it can determine the lack or alteration of ovulation and in men the oligo-astheno-zoospermia with impairment of the number, motility and quality of spermatozoa.

-important aids in Natural Medicine, such as "polarized maca" (LMWP), trace elements, vitamins, growth factors, etc., object of study and research at our Institute in collaboration with the Center for Biomedical Technologies and Natural Medicine of the University of Milan , used in synergy with modern findings in Reproductive Medicine, determine in our experience higher rates of pregnancy in infertile couples.

-in our opinion, ovarian stimulation must be very personalized; each couple is different from the other and only the clinical, psychosomatic and instrumental study of the couple can determine a high rate of success. In other words, the visit electronically cannot replace clinical feedback. Medicine is not a series of bundled tests, but an art to help the couple and the health of the people.
