IUI (intrauterine insemination) Mexico

What is IUI?

Intrauterine insemination (IUI), sometimes referred to as artificial insemination is a procedure in which sperm are directly transferred into the uterus. Under many circumstances, the ovaries are hormonally stimulated with oral or injectable medications to improve the chance of success. Resourcefully, IUI is often suggested for couples with unexplained infertility or male factor infertility — such as a low sperm count or poor sperm motility or for those choosing to use donor sperm.

Artificial insemination was developed to dramatically increase the number of sperm reaching the fallopian tubes in order to increase the chances for fertilization. The IUI process bypasses the cervix, allowing the sperm to target the ovaries without being slowed or stopped by the lower area of the reproductive tract.

The Future of IUI — Unveiled

At the prestigious LIV Fertility Center, the future of IUI is progressing.

Providing increased success rates for intrauterine insemination (IUI) with LIV’s superovulation treatment, depending on the age and reproductive health of the woman, as well as the condition of the man’s sperm.

Making it as straightforward as possible, innovative insemination technologies do not involve the collection of eggs from the woman’s uterus, nor the administration of a general anesthetic.

The LIV Way — IUI (intrauterine insemination) Step by Step

STEP 1 | Initial Consultation with Your LIV Advisor

When you begin your journey to parenthood at LIV, you will consult with a personal advisor — a committed member of our team — who will acquire an extensive medical history from you and your partner and address any questions or concerns that you may have. Your LIV advisor will help you plan your first visit to Puerto Vallarta. Our dedicated team has developed a program that allows you to feel comfortable and confident during each step of your journey.

STEP 2 | In-House Consultation with LIV Clinical Coordinator

Your LIV clinical coordinator is a dedicated member of our fertility team who will oversee your entire family building journey. During your first visit, we will review your preliminary fertility diagnosis, perform testing, discuss with you the details of our program and the options for an individualized treatment plan. Your clinical coordinator will then schedule all the necessary procedures, which are entirely performed inside the gleaming LIV Fertility Center.

STEP 3 | Administer Fertility Drugs

Fertility drugs are administered to stimulate the growth of two to three eggs to maturity. Typically, oral pills or meds via injection are employed to support the growth of follicles, which cause ovulation to occur.

STEP 4 | Monitoring and Testing

LIV fertility specialists closely monitor the use of fertility enhancing drugs to measure the growth of follicles and to control the drug doses based on your individualized patient review. Fertility drugs can produce multiple eggs, so careful monitoring is needed to reduce the risk of multiple births. Blood tests, performed at our LIV offices are used to measure estrogen concentrations, and an advanced ultrasound is used to measure follicular development. Above all, our goal is to produce three to five mature follicles.

STEP 5 | Induce Ovulation and Sperm Preparation

When monitoring shows the maturity of at least two or three follicles, the patient will receive a hormone injection to induce ovulation.

On the morning of ovulation, a sperm sample is provided by the male partner, and prepared for insemination. Sperm preparation ensures the highest probability of successful insemination through a special washing procedure. This process helps separates inactive or slow–moving sperm and upholds sperm that are more likely to fertilize an egg.

STEP 6 | Uterine Insemination

With a very fine catheter, the washed and concentrated sperm sample is inserted through the cervix, high into the uterus of the female intended parent. The procedure is fairly painless and basic.

STEP 7 | Pregnancy Testing

After the IUI procedure, pregnancy testing and early ultrasound monitoring are conducted at appropriate intervals.
