PGS (preimplantation genetic screening) Mexico

What is PGS?

Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) for aneuploidy is a powerful genetic test that may be performed on embryos during IVF treatment to screen for numerical chromosomal abnormalities. PGS is performed on a small embryo biopsy prior to transfer and identifies which embryos are chromosomally normal. Chromosomal embryos are the most likely to develop to term and to be born as a healthy baby.

PGS offers comprehensive analysis of all 24 chromosome types: the two sex chromosomes (X and Y) and the 22 other non-sex chromosomes.

The LIV Fertility Center in Puerto Vallarta uses PGS to detect abnormalities in chromosomes, hereditary conditions, and for gender selection. This high-tech procedure can increase the chance of pregnancy because the pre-screening process identifies poor-quality embryos that are unlikely to survive implantation and a positive pregnancy. Elective family balancing using gender selection is another option available to couples that includes determining their desired gender.

Dedicated to the Future of PGS

At the respected LIV Fertility Center, the future of PGS is comprehensively surfacing. Patients who benefit from PGS include couples who have a family history of inherited disease, couples who want to use gender determination to prevent a gender-linked disease, couples who have had repeated failures with IVF, and couples who have a child or family history of serious genetic conditions.

Advanced technology allows our embryologists to select pre-embryos that are balanced for the tested chromosomes.

Advanced training to extensively perform an embryo biopsy.

High-tech laboratories enables the implantation of only selected pre-embryos, increasing the chance of pregnancy. Because the quality of the pre-embryo has been proven, fewer pre-embryos are needed to establish a successful pregnancy, greatly diminishing the chances of a multiple pregnancy.

Reduction in miscarriage rate.

The LIV Way — PGS Step by Step

STEP 1 | Initial Consultation with Your LIV Advisor

When you begin your journey to parenthood at LIV, you will consult with a personal advisor — a committed member of our team — who will acquire an extensive medical history from you and your partner and address any questions regarding gender selection or other services we perform. We developed a program that allows you to feel comfortable and confident during each step of your journey. If LIV is the right decision for you, your LIV advisor will help you plan your first visit to meet our medical team and your LIV clinical coordinator.

STEP 2 | In-House Consultation with Your LIV Clinical Coordinator

Your LIV clinical coordinator is a dedicated member of our fertility team who will oversee your entire family building journey. In Puerto Vallarta, we will review your preliminary fertility diagnosis, perform testing, and discuss with you the details of our program and the options for an individualized treatment plan. Your clinical coordinator will then schedule all the necessary procedures, which are entirely performed inside the gleaming LIV Fertility Center.

STEP 3 | Examination of Embryos

Couples will undergo the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Cycle — ovulation, fertilization and embryo development. Our expert fertility doctors examine the genetic makeup of the embryo to identify the gender and determine if any genetic diseases have been transmitted.

Several methods are used to date to analyze these embryos. Our lab uses the Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH) method to find the number of X and Y chromosomes and the arrangement — in determining the gender of the embryo. Our reproductive specialists also conduct a gene-level test, also known as PCR. PCR testing creates several million copies the embryo’s DNA code. This allows our IVF lab to conclude whether any part of the DNA is anomalous.

Once the tests are completed, our LIV fertility team continues with the embryo transfer and pregnancy testing. Supplementary, healthy embryos can be frozen for future IVF cycles.
