Surrogate pregnancy or Surrogacy


Surrogate pregnancy and surrogacy are two different concepts.

Surrogate pregnancy is a medical procedure in which a woman (surrogate) contributes her belly to carry out the pregnancy. Surrogate gestating does not provide genetic material. The genetic material is created by the intended parents, who will provide sperm and eggs. A fertility clinic fertilize the eggs with sperm, creating embryos. The embryos are transferred to the uterus of pregnant surrogate through a process known as "Embryo Transfer" previously created in a fertility clinic in order to support another human being or partner to carry out a pregnancy.

Surrogacy is a medical procedure through which the surrogate, providing her eggs, and her uterus in the process of assisted reproduction. Sperm and Oocytes have to be at the fertility clinic to subsequently fertilize them. There are various techniques that are used for this purpose, the most common are the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI).
