Dr Azizunnisa Shaikh is a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a particular interest in foetal and maternal problems. Her main areas of interest are medical disorders in pregnancy, foetal medicine, critical care in obstetrics and medical/surgical management of benign gynaecological conditions such as fibroids, uterovaginal prolapse and management of menstrual disorders. Before joining Mediclinic City Hospital she worked as a senior consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist in Dubai Hospital, Dubai Health Authority where she was the Chairman of Dubai residency programme and also a member of the maternal morbidity and mortality committee. Dr Azizunnisa moved from London to the UAE in 2006 and joined Corniche Hospital as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist until April 2009. She established foetal medicine services and provided maternal medicine care especially for looking after neurological and respiratory problems in pregnancy. She also looked after critically ill obstetric patients in a high dependency set up, and presented the outcome of such cases in the RCOG 9th scientific meeting held in Abu Dhabi in 2009. She obtained her medical degree in Pakistan in 1982 and joined the Pakistan Army for two years as a medical practitioner. She did her MCPS at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan in 1989. She moved to the UK in 1992 and worked in many hospitals in London such as Whipps Cross, Homerton Hospital, West Middlesex Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital and Adinbrooks Hospital Cambridge. She did her MRCOG in 1998 from RCOG London. She also completed her CCST in Feb 2006. She is a member of British Fetal Medicine Society and also a member of the RCOG reference committee of UAE. She has acquired her advanced training skill modules in maternal medicine, fetal medicine and emergency gynaecology accredited from the RCOG London.
