1982 – First IVF–baby born in Austria. 1983 – Establishment of the institute by Professor Wilfried Feichtinger, a “medical” father of the first IVF–baby born in Vienna. 1984 – Development of the ultrasonic transvaginal follicle puncture by Professor Wilfried Feichtinger in cooperation with the Austrian ultrasound company “Kretz–Technik”. 1990 – Introduction of Laser–Assisted Hatching and development of the laser instrument in cooperation with the company “LISA–Laser”. 1993 – Introduction of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). 1994 – Birth of the first ICSI baby and surgical extraction of sperm from testes. 1995 – World Congress for IVF and Assisted Reproduction in Vienna, presided over by Professor Wilfried Feichtinger. 1999 – Transfer to the new building in the 13th district of Vienna, Lainzer Straße 6. 2000 – IVF Funds granted to the institute; since then majority of costs for IVF–treatments covered by funding. 2002 – Renaming of “Institute for Sterility Care” in the Wunschbaby Zentrum to “Institute for the Desire To Have a Child”. 2005 – First successful preimplantation diagnostics in the Wunschbaby Center. 2006 – Since establishment of institute, approximately 5,000 – 6,000 IVF–babies born.
