Egg and sperm donations are legal in Thailand; however, commercial egg or sperm donation is not. Egg donor recipients are not allowed to receive eggs from more than one donor per treatment. Couples at high risk of transmitting heritable genetic diseases are eligible for performing tests to identify genetic defects within embryos — PGD. In contrast, all couples are eligible for PGS. The legal access to surrogacy is limited to officially married Thai couples, and the legal type of surrogacy is limited to altruistic, gestational, and non–commercial. All singles and same–sex couples are banned from completing surrogacy in Thailand, even if they are Thai citizens. In addition, the surrogate mother must be a sibling of one member of the couple. She must be married, have her husband’s consent for the surrogacy process, have her own child, and volunteer to carry a baby.
