Vibrant and colorful India is a perfect destination for single women and married heterosexual couples desiring to have a baby and seeking fertility treatment. Unlike most Asian countries where single women are eligible for egg freezing only (and even not in all Asian countries), in India, they have many options to conceive a baby. Single women are eligible for IUI and IVF using donor sperm, the simultaneous donation of sperm and egg, and Embryo Adoption. Married heterosexual couples have access to all ART services single women have, plus Egg Donor IVF. It is essential to note that there is a limit on transferring IVF embryos per cycle — no more than three embryos can be placed in the uterus, and preimplantation genetic testing is used for medical reasons only. And one more thing to know about transferring cryopreserved cells, embryos, and tissues abroad: cryopreserved cells, embryos, and tissues can be shipped for personal use only with the permission of the National Board.

Although surrogacy is allowed in India, only infertile Indian married couples are eligible for the program. According to Indian surrogacy law, foreign couples cannot hire a surrogate mother in India. The Surrogacy Act bans commercial surrogacy, allowing it only in cases of altruism from the surrogate mother’s side. This means that surrogate mothers are prohibited from receiving any monetary compensation for their surrogacy services except for medical and insurance coverage.
