After years of infertility and multiple miscarriages, I can honestly say that finding Gen 5 Fertility — and especially Dr. Wood changed everything for us. Absolutely atrocious customer service. My wife and I were referred here for an HSG test by her primary and they refused to put in an authorization. Then proceeded to tell us they don't accept of insurance which is completely false because had they not, our insurance company wouldn't have sent us there. After several answered emails communication went cold. It wasn't until my wife found the office manager and doctor email, CC'd them, that they finally responded with more excuses. Instead of handling the issue the first day, the "billing specialist" waited until day before the appointment to try. She claimed because she worked remote she couldn't make phone calls or get in touch with people. Absolutely joke.

Please do not go here!!! Do not support a company who leaves their surrogates with medical bills for them to pay when it was the IPs responsibility and the agencies to ensure this was taken care of before hand. It has been 2+ years for me of trying to fight this battle. My credit has been affected with the bills going into collections. I have tried posting on social media to warn people but I have not been successful. Beware, you have been warned about this company.

Dr. Wood and his staff are the best!! From the first meeting and every step of the way, the team at Gen 5 was superb. I was made to feel very comfortable, cared for, and most importantly, given so much hope. The facility is so clean and nice to visit. All the staff are so professional and very kind. Best decision I made was to go through my fertility journey with Gen 5!! Thank you!!

To begin, we were able to get a really good number of embryos, and are now pregnant (30w) and on the first transfer. That is the ultimate goal, so of course we are elated about those results!

Here's my honest take: This is our first time using Gen5, and we used them because we were using their sister company and thought that would make things easier. This is our second surrogacy pregnancy - the first one was at a different clinic, and I coordinated the entire thing (we didn't use an agency). This time we were using an agency, but I was still pretty involved. My prior knowledge on the process ended up coming in handy - I'd say that Gen5 has a ways to go as far as walking their clients through this process. They need to invest in a better intake process, one that educates their patients about every step of the way, and gives them a reasonable expectation of when things will happen, what to expect, and how quickly they can expect results for each step of the process. Patients need a playbook!

The staff was really nice, and we met Dr. Wood once virtually, and then again at the transfer - he was good. We did have one fairly big issue with the nurse coordinator they assigned us - her communication skills were lacking, and she dropped the ball on a big item which delayed our transfer. It seemed like she wouldn't let us know until the night before an appointment that something was required - i.e. our surrogate was flying in the next day, and the NIGHT before she then let us know she needed a certain vaccination or we'd have to cancel the appointment. This had never been mentioned up to that point. Because of my prior experience coordinating our last surrogacy, I was able to scramble and pick up the slack when this happened, but I'm concerned that others wouldn't be able to, and that their process would be needlessly delayed. This happened several times with this particular coordinator, where info would trickle out at the last minute, which directly delayed our transfer by at least a month, so I requested a new coordinator. The new coordinator we got - Cindy Yin - was absolutely amazing, and deserves a huge shout-out! She made the process so much easier, explained everything, was ahead of the game, and made us feel so well taken care of! I hope they're able to hire a few more people as good as Cindy so that she can continue with her excellent customer service and not be too overworked!

All-in-all, we are happy with our experience. The office is clean and new, Dr. Adams (the embryologist) is excellent, and we got pregnant on the first try. I just felt that I wanted to be transparent and share our full experience so that others going into this know what they're getting into. Wishing you all the best on your journey :)

If anyone asks my wife and me about who we recommend for infertility services in San Diego we would 100% recommend Gen5 fertility.

First, our years-long infertility journey started at another San Diego clinic, which matters because I'm not so sure how we'd perceive our experience at Gen5 if we hadn't experienced that clinic first.

At the first clinic, we met with a doctor only once (after rescheduling us twice) who never remembered us or anything in our tiny patient file. Over 3 IUI's we never had the same care providers, and worst of all it was always a different person who called to say the procedure was unsuccessful. The process is SET after the service you're buying is determined. If you're doing an IUI, you're getting one dosage - no follow-up, no bloodwork tracking, and no adjustments along the way.

When IVF started to become a more necessary reality we had to decide if we wanted to remain a part of the impersonal high-volume clinic (presumably VC/PE funded and growth-minded) or find someone else. As it turned out switching to Dr. Wood and Gen5 may have saved my wife's life.

Gen5 runs 100% through Dr. Wood, which seems to be a conscientious quality-of-care decision. From the very first appointment my wife said felt more taken-care of from a bedside manner perspective, and an obvious and evident expertise perspective.

The value of this level of care really showed itself during the stimulation process when my wife had a super high estradiol level (4x normal) which prompted a quick change of care that seems to have prevented life-threatening OHSS and allowed the egg retrieval to continue.

Even with the adjustments we still ran into some complications where we needed an emergency next-morning visit, but we shudder to think what could've happened if we were still at the first clinic.

This level of care was eventually what we decided mattered the most for us. It's a real decision to make because there are downsides to it. Appointments can take a very long time (an hour or longer often), and it's presumably because Dr. Wood sees EVERYONE. Also when my wife and mine's emergency next-day-appointment happens, it's is pushing everyone else's appointment 30 minutes later.

Gen5 is not the cheapest option but we consider it a good value. The process for an IUI was about 2-3x the price of our first clinic. "Comparable" IVF packages were 20-30% more expensive at Gen5. For the money though, you get actual follow-up, bloodwork tracking, and adjustments to care along the way.

These time and money costs are where I think we would've perceived Gen5 differently had we not gone to another clinic first. After seeing what else is out there we're less concerned about the time and money, and more concerned about how much worse infertility treatment in San Diego would be if Dr. Wood and the Gen5 team wasn't here.

And of course the team matters a lot. Big thank you to our dedicated coordinators Yuzi, Jasmin, and Vinny. We were never apprehensive to send a midnight email.

We are now graduated from the clinic, happily looking forward to expecting our first. We'll be back in a couple years!

We moved to San Diego with the goal of finding a clinic to work with to do egg donation IVF and surrogacy. After a thorough search and interviews, Gen5 and Dr Wood came out in our top 2 choices. When we finally identified an egg donor and learned the donor would only work with Gen5, it was an easy choice. We were not wrong either: the entire experience with the staff, finances, lab, clinic, etc. was easy and comfortable. We were kept informed of every stage of the egg donor progress, and it was clear that Gen5 took extra care to make her feel cared for and appreciated in the process. We ended up with 7 perfectly healthy embryos and are so grateful we can continue our journey towards parenthood. Thank you Gen5!

My Wife and I are so grateful for having found Dr. Wood and Gen5 Fertility.

Our journey started less than a year ago, when my wife and I walked into Gen 5 for the first time. By the time we left the initial consultation, we both agreed that Dr. Wood was going to be our fertility doctor.
There was no pressure at all during the consultation, and we left with a clear understanding of what Gen5 does, what Doctor Wood thought would be a good place to start for us, and what the costs would be.

If you haven't looked up Dr. Wood already, he is not your average fertility specialist. He has been at the forefront of his field for a very long time. People travel from across the USA (and beyond) to be under his care. Having somebody this talented in my city was great. Before our consultation, my wife wasn't sold on having a male doctor, but from the moment we met Dr. Wood, those hesitations vanished. Beyond being such a capable doctor, he has a very calming and reassuring presence that made the entire process so much easier.

Our coordinators, Chloe and Jasmin, both consistently went above and beyond as well. They were always easily accessible and thoughtful and thorough in all of their communications. Both were helpful with everything from helping show us how to do the shots (yes, there were shots, no they were not that bad), to answering questions we had between appointments.

We did a single round of full IVF with Gen 5. Dr. Wood reviewed all of our labs and personally did scans/ultrasounds before and during our cycle to tailor a stims / medication protocol specific to our needs. Our first and only retrieval went amazingly well, and resulted in multiple PGT tested euploid embryos. We moved onto transfer shortly thereafter and our first FET transfer resulted in pregnancy! Since graduating from Gen5, baby has been growing and looked great at our 20 week anatomy scan this week.

Words cannot express how grateful we are to Dr. Wood, Dr. Adams (our Embryologist), our coordinators Chloe and Jasmin, and the entire Gen5 team for the extraordinary care provided to us.

TLDR: We are having a baby! Go in for a consultation and meet Dr. Wood. You'll see why we chose Gen5 to help us start our family.
