As long as I can remember I have had to deal with horrible monthly cycles. And for as equally long I can remember being dismissed by health care providers, "it's just what women have to go through", was what I was told. I felt hopeless and in my worst moments thought of ending it all rather than deal with the pain. Then finally at 42, I decided to look into a smaller practice, and that's when I found Dr. Karen Chu. She is by far the best provider I have ever had, the very first visit I had sent over some records and she read them all before meeting me. Every single question I have ever asked her, she answered with thoughtfulness and provides detailed and specific answers. She worked with me until my problem was resolved and walked through everything with me, pretty much gave me my life back. The front desk staff are always friendly and I genuinely enjoy seeing them each time I visit the office. My only complaint is that I wish Dr. Chu could be my PCP but she is a GYN and in my humble opinion the best there is to offer.

Have been trying to find an OB/GYN who takes my insurance coverage. This office never answers their calls, and I have called for three days now during random hours. They have a recorded message with voicemail; I consider this to be unprofessional.

Truly terrible experiences at this place have left me wary of private medical practices overall. Dr. Rachel Shu was incredibly rude to me in our appointment and told me my IUD was displaced after checking the string and doing an X-ray. She told me I needed it out as soon as possible otherwise it would "end up in my stomach". After getting a second opinion from a UCSF gynecologist and getting X-rayed in their state of the art machines, I was told it wasn't displaced at all. Also, the place SF woman's health tried to send me to get a second X-ray was going to charge me hundred of dollars out of pocket even with good insurance on file. The place my new gyno at UCSF sent me to had better machines and I only paid $30 overall. Also, Dr Rachel Shu told me that based on a very common medical condition that I have, I had a high chance of getting cancer within the next 10 years unless I reduced my stress (I eat healthily and run almost everyday, which Dr. Shu laughed at and seemed not to believe). I left their office crying and even considered quitting my job to reduce stress. My new gynecologist at UCSF told me my condition does not lead to cancer (except for extremely rare cases in much older women) and this was not even close to a concern for me, a 26 year old girl. Please don't go to this place. Choose a gynecologist at UCSF or anywhere that's affiliated with a university. University affiliated gynecologists are not paid out based on appointments done and procedures/tests ordered, so they have less incentive to scare you into excessive tests and appointments. They also are more likely to be kept up to date on the latest techniques and information, unlike SF woman's health. Don't go here.

Awful experience in this office. Different from the public clinic/hospital, all service they do are aiming for max benefit. Not to say how others' had experience the same type of issue. They would charge you money beyond your responsibility. My Insurance pays for full amount for the service and I am still being charged. I would avoid going to private own office since they force service that is unnecessary related to your health issue.

I was seen on time, the appointment was quick and effortless. I appreciate Dr. Chu's to-the-point method (she's caring and kind but is conscious of your time as well which is great for someone like me who's on a tight schedule usually).

Dr. Chun is a fantastic physician. Kind and thorough. Office staff are very pleasant and helpful. At my last appointment recently I did have to wait to be seen a little longer than usual, but overall very happy with the care.

If only I can give no fucking stars to this bullshit ass place. Dr. shu wanted to see me and my husband just to tell us that it was just timing for us. I had a feeling booking this appointment we would get charged even though the person at the front desk told me I wasn't going to get charged for it. I was charged $200 just for this fucking office visit that did absolutely nothing to me. Mind you, this all happened last November 3, 2018. Of course no one would fucking remember that they had said that so I had to be charged no matter what. Idk this place just wants ur money and they're full of shit. Fuck them. I would not recommend anyone going to this damn place.

I went to this place because I searched for sexual pain specialist in SF, and these folks popped up with available appointments the next week. I went in, and Dr. Shu was incredibly rude. She didn't listen to my problem, interrupting me often to tell me something in a way that made it seem like I had no idea what was going on with my body. She made weird assumptions about me that were wrong, and didn't ask questions about my problem. She told me things about my condition that I know for a fact are medically inaccurate. I had results from previous tests with me, and she didn't even want to look at them. In the end, she made a "diagnosis" in which there was absolutely nothing she could do to help me except prescribe me antidepressants, which she said, "Yea, you don't want to do that, that's only when you're really desperate." All in all, it was the worst appointment I've ever had in any doctors office in my life. I was going off the reviews they have on their website, which are all 5 star. I wanted to post this there, but they don't post negative reviews. I wish I had verified here before going.
