Aloha Urology

Although I was very happy for a few years to be under Dr. Sun's care-the positive things others write about him in the Yelp reviews are accurate-I was told at my last appointment a few months ago that they were cancelling all their patients on Humana. Just like that. I understand that big insurance companies can be a bureaucratic nightmare to work with, especially for smaller clinics, but as a patient I felt completely helpless, as it is not easy to find good urologists in Honolulu. I wished that Aloha Urology had made a bit more effort to keep their Humana patients.

Just wanted to provide feedback for "care" my partner received in 2023 from Dr Peers. Without reliving the HORROR of our entire experience, just know it was identical to so many other 1 star reviews on yelp.

If you are given a referral to Aloha Urology, do yourself a favor and please ask for a different one. After 3 or 4 appointments, it ended with ZERO help or solution from the dr. Thankfully, we continued to ask for a referral of a different urologist at a completely different practice and was finally able to get a solution!

They stink!! The Dr. I want to visit with is on the TRICARE in-network, and works only at this clinic. I can self-refer, but by virtue of “clinic policy,” I cannot be seen without a referral. Cant get pass the useless admin staff - I am sure there are better places…in other countries.

Dr. Roytman is very patient and understanding of me. I have Asperger's Syndrome and was nervous when I underwent my procedure for a vasectomy. For those of you who don't know me, I'm a counterintelligence operations manager and criminal investigator who works in administration and found that my life would be much simpler and less stressful if I had a vasectomy. I planned on having a vasectomy since high school because of negative experiences with friends and peers becoming parents so unexpectedly. I was apprehensive and frightened to have the procedure, but after talking to Dr. Roytman and his staff (Wendy and Cindy) I felt more at ease. The procedure went by so fast, I was like, "holy shit, that didn't hurt and went by so fast". Yes, the aftermath was terrible, but it's better than owing child support to some random woman, whom you had a one-night stand with, TBH. The reason why I can afford cosplay, go to Kawaii Kon, and fly First and Business Class to Tokyo Japan is that I'm single and childfree and do not plan on starting a family at all. Thank you, Dr. Roytman and your staff for making my life easier. My paternal-grandparents and relatives shot me down for having a vasectomy, but I told them that due to the nature of my work, it would be easier for me to be childfree and single. Gentlemen, get a vasectomy while it's still legal before Roe v. Wade is entirely overturned. I mean it'll be illegal to get a vasectomy in Texas and Florida pretty soon.

I've been a patient of Aloha Urology for 12 years and genuinely feel that it's the most professional, patient oriented practice on the island! Staff members Wendy, Sho and Jon are prompt to answer calls and are efficient, courteous, professional and consistently go out of their way to assist the patient. Dr. Garry Peers is skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate and with excellent bed-side manners! Highly recommend Dr. Gary Peers and Aloha Urology!

If you're a man who wants a male urologist and don't want to have your private parts examined by a woman, be warned that just because all of the urologists here are male, on your first visit, despite the fact that you were given a 30-minute appointment with one of the male urologists, you will most likely spend most of that time with a female PA. She will review your medications, your past medical and surgical history, and the reason for your visit. She will then ask if she can examine you. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SAY NO and, if you do, she may ask if she can be there with the urologist while he examines you. Again, do not be afraid to say no. If you wanted a woman looking at and handling your genitals, you could have found a female urologist. Do they have a male PA examining female patients's genitals? You know the answer to that. Then, when you finally get to see your urologist and he does a minimal exam of you, don't be surprised if he doesn't pay that much attention to you and then sends you on your way.
I don't recommend Aloha Urology.

I am so relieved in a sense to see that other people experienced the same horrible things as I did. Honestly, before I came here to read all the terrible things people had to say about these people, I was feeling pretty bad. Sho and Wendy had me feeling bad about my situation. DON'T ALLOW WENDY AND SHO TO MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR HEALTH CONCERNS ARE NOT VALID. Sho and Wendy are unprofessional. They act like they're doing you a favor by speaking to you. They also act like they are not allowing you into the VIP section at a club because they're soooooo busy and booked. This is your health people, It matters 100000% so I recommend you go somewhere that treats you like YOU MATTER and care about you. Wendy and Sho are the worst. Zero stars they do not respect anyone nor respect anyone's time either.

This office has terrible, impatient and rude office support. In addition, the scheduling of procedures and visits by the office is haphazard, inconsistent and explanations for the delays in scheduling just does not pass the smell test ("too many moving parts" was the excuse for not scheduling the procedure). The diagnoses, too, are inconsistent and untrustworthy insofar as the consultations with the physicians seem to come from inexperienced professionals and without much deep thought. I do not recommend this office for these and many other reasons after 4 plus years of frustratingly using two of its doctors.

I recently had a procedure at Aloha Urology in their surgical suite.nI have had many medical procedures and research procedures in many facilities in the past,this one was exceptional. The first impression was the clinic lobby,obviously designed by some one with taste and a sense of humor.nThe staff ,receptionists, nurses, assistants,and office personnel all more than necessary or expected went out of there way to make me feel, comfortable ,safe, and cared for and about. In a particularly stressful time for all medical professionals, Dr. Garry Peers has put together easily one of the best teams I've encountered anywhere in Hawaii.nMy comfort and safety were clearly important to them. Medical procedures by nature produce some level of anxiety,this team is expert at dispelling that. Dr. Peers is a consummate professional and his team is clearly in that league.I am a client for life ,whenever necessary.nMahalo, Stay safe and take care of yourselves and your families.nBob Schwager.

Surprisingly good experience here, after some false starts with other Uro Drs in Hi. I have had some BPH issues, but "Aloha" operated on my hernia quite nicely. This was the second procedure for me, so I knew what to expect....post-op pain here was [unexpectedly] quite reasonable this time, not that bad.. Smotherman is good, staff is great. Highly recommended.
