Second Trimester is Coming (14–22 Weeks Pregnant): What Miracles to Expect?

The second trimester is here! And it comes with many mysterious things that you have never ever envisioned in your mind or felt. Amused, confused, embarrassed, scared? Or, maybe, thrilled about everything that is to come or feel as a bundle of nerves without any idea what this trimester would ‘bring’ you? Wondering what will happen in the second trimester?

The second trimester is the most wonderful time of the pregnancy. It is the time when everything has its synchronization in the time. Your morning sickness, fatigue, dizziness, fainting would disappear. Instead, your energy will dramatically boost, and you will feel more comfortable being in the pregnant body. The mysteries will be revealed, and the magic moments will happen more often. Want to know more about this ‘baby-moon’ time?

1. Week 14: Starting the ‘honeymoon trimester’ or ‘baby-moon trimester’

Congratulations, you are officially in the second trimester! It is the so–called ‘honeymoon trimester’ with your tiny bundle or bundles. By the end of this ‘honeymoon’ time, your bundle or bundles would be not so tiny as they are in the very beginning. Your belly will grow, and your baby bump will not only become visible. It will also have so many shapes! As your fetus will love to change the position, especially at the end of the second trimester, your baby bump will be constantly reshaping. But the miracles should be unfolded synchronicity with the weeks, shouldn’t they?

Wondering why it is called a ‘honeymoon trimester’? Week 14 will literally ‘take away’ your morning sickness, fatigue, dizziness, fainting would disappear. Instead, your energy will dramatically boost, and you will feel more comfortable being in the pregnant body.

The intimidating realization that the tiny fetus or fetuses you adore so completely is/are utterly dependent on you. Yup, you! You are now completely responsible for your lemon–sized fetus or fetuses, so, let’s see what is going on.

Your tiny bundle has scheduled the sleeping time!

Second and third trimester (14th – 40th gestational week) ‘sparkles’ with additional ‘options’, basically, your fetus is sleeping and waking at the regular time–intervals. Fetuses sleep in the womb around 16–17 hours a day, usually for periods of around 40–50 minutes at a time. Despite it was scientifically proved that fetus spends most of its time in a womb asleep, the mystery of fetal sleeping phenomenon has not been revealed yet.

Emotional content’s representation?! How is it possible?!

Your tiny bundle may ‘represent’ his or her emotions through the facial expressions. Your fetus may grimace, may curl the tiny lips into an amused smile, may press the lips together, may frown, and may do many other things. Shocked? me too.

But still, there is the one most dramatic mystery remains undisclosed. The gorgeous tiny eyes. There are many characteristics of eyes: amusing eyes, beautiful eyes, charismatic eyes, glittering eyes, gorgeous eyes, warm eyes, annoyed eyes, confused eyes, embarrassed eyes, frustrated eyes but most of the eyes don't have one unique pattern – the depth. No mater literally or metaphorically saying, but the eyes always show the pure soul. It is impossible to hide it as it is so vividly outlined through the eyes. And no one knows, could the diamond tears fill those gorgeous eyes of your fetus or fetuses, as still they are closed.

2. Week 15: Who are you, fetus? Are you the fetus–dude or the fetus–lady?

Your growing fetus is the size of a big red heart–shaped apple, about 4 inches long, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces.

Fetus senses the light! It is hard to visualize in your mind, but 15–week old fetus can sense the light and turn away, hiding from it. Your fetus’s eyelids are still fused shut on the 15th week of gestation, but he/she can sense light. For instance, if you shine your mobile’s flashlight on your tummy, he/she will move away from the beam. Or even cuddle up with his/her hands near (or covering) his/her face.

If you have an ultrasound scan this week, you may know who is curled up inside: boy or girl? This mystery may be revealed or maybe undisclosed if your fetus is shyly curled up or turned in such a way as to hide from you.

3. Week 16: Fetus adores practicing choreography inside

Between 16th and 20th week, you will feel that strange choreography your fetus practices inside. Cuddling up, curling up, twisting, turning, stretching, and kicking become more intensive and more advanced.

Starting from the 16th week, your fetus is about the size of an avocado. This ‘avocado’ weighs 3 1/2 ounces and is about 4 1/2 inches long from head to bottom. Usually, this is the ‘a gold time–standard’ for first ‘feeling the baby’s dance’ inside.

The most wonderful moments of pregnancy will be those when you are feeling your baby move inside your tummy. You will experience baby’s ‘quickening’ at ‘gold timeline’ between 16th and 20th week. Those delicate fluttering you have been feeling will soon turn into intensive kicking and strong shoving. Soon, these moments will be the most vivid remembrances about your pregnancy, which you will recollect into your mind with a warm feeling inside your soul.

Feeling how your baby cuddles up, curls up, twists, turns, stretches and kicks inside for the very first time will be one of the most emotional–inspiring, most beautiful, most unforgettable moment. The little kicks will be adorable and unique, you should not be afraid of them. This first experience you should be able to have by the 16th gestational week or 18th gestational week. Growing during pregnancy, your baby may occasionally twist and turn in the womb positioning itself more comfortably. You may feel kicking or wiggling every time when the baby is twisting and turning around inside. Totally amazing that a baby knocks by small palms and feet a lot of that right out from under you. Soon this kicking or wiggling will become stronger and you might notice a pattern of when your baby moves the most. You may notice that your baby has the most preferable position and a favorite daytime or night–time to be most active.

4. Week 17: Week of Umbilical cord.

Your fetus weighs 5 ounces now, and he or she is around 5 inches long from head to bottom. Your fetus’s skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord is growing stronger and thicker. Being the unique connection between the fetus and the placenta, umbilical cord has the umbilical vessels. Those vessels carry blood to and from the fetus and placenta, and thus, are critical to the survival of the fetus. As your fetus grows, the umbilical cord also grows to provide the necessary fetal nutrition.

5. Week 18: Week of Nervous system.

This week your fetus is about 5 1/2 inches long head to rump and weighs almost 7 ounces. Nearly about the size of a bell pepper. Your dude’s or lady’s blood vessels are visible through the translucent skin, and the ears are now in their final position. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his or her nerves, and this process will continue for a year after your dude or your lady is born.

6. Week 19: Your fetus hears your voice.

This week your fetus weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom. And your fetus hears your voice! amazing.

You have a voice. Blended with emotions, it has so many ‘HIDDEN HUES’. Confused, cordial, delicate, embarrassed, flirtatious, irritated, indignant, sensitive, – it is yours. The beautiful voice, the unique voice, the strange and wonderful voice that is your own. No one else’s. Why do you hide it? Use your voice to make the cordial connection with your small fetus. Why should you do that? Because your voice is the sound, which curls your small bundle’s lips in an amused smile and makes the tiny heart glittering. Your voice always resounds in your small bundle’s soul with a unique glow, because your dude or your lady are constantly listening to it. Whenever you are having the conversation, your small bundle will respond to the sound of your voice, turning his or her head and kicking you. The fetuses always respond to the voices of those who they love.

7. Weeks 20–22: Eyebrows, Eyelids, Classical Ballet and Tiny Newborn.

Being 20 weeks old, your small bundle is 10 inches long from head to heel and weighs about 10 1/2 ounces. Your little one swallows the amniotic fluid more and more.

Week 21 is ‘devoted’ to the eyebrows and eyelids ‘design’. The tiny eyebrows and tiny translucent eyelids are emphasizing the beauty of the closed almond–shaped eyes. Despite your fetus is 10 1/2 inches long and weighs about three–quarters of a pound, all his or her time is devoted to choreography. You may soon feel that your small bundle’s initial fluttering ballet movements turn into full–fledged kicks and nudges. Ballet technique becomes more accurate and advanced. All those delicate sautés, jetés, assembles, Allongés, Arabesques, Attitudes, Adagios, Fondus, turn into full–fledged ones. Be ready for this.

Week 22: Tiny newborn’s appearance. At 11 inches and almost 1 pound, your small bundle is starting to look like a miniature newborn. The lips, the eyelids, and the eyebrows are accurately shaped and outline the pure beauty. The eyes have formed, but the colored part of the eyes still lack pigment. So, your tiny, curled up fetus is gorgeous now!

CONCLUSIVE REMARKS

The second trimester is the most wonderful time of the pregnancy. It is the so–called ‘honeymoon trimester’ with your tiny bundle or bundles. By the end of this ‘honeymoon’ time, your bundle or bundles would be not so tiny as they are in the very beginning. Starting with the size of the lemon and growing to the size of the large mango, you small bundle or bundles turn into the miniature newborn or newborns.
