Canada's surrogacy is legal and regulated under the Federal Assisted Human Reproduction Act. The law permits only altruistic surrogacy, which means surrogate mothers cannot be paid for surrogacy services. But although paying for surrogacy is prohibited by law, the law permits reimbursing a surrogate mother for her reasonable surrogacy–related expenses (Ivf fees, expenses covering pregnancy and delivery, and lost wages fees).
