Not always. If your water breaks in a big gush and you are past the mid-thirties in weeks, labor often follows quickly, and delivery is usually the safest plan. If you are earlier and fluid is leaking slowly, doctors sometimes can delay delivery for several days. That time allows steroids to strengthen your baby’s lungs and antibiotics to reduce infection. The exact plan depends on how far along you are and how both you and your baby look on monitoring.

Are IVF babies always smaller?

No. IVF singletons have a higher chance of being small for gestational age, especially when the uterine lining was thin at transfer. At the same time, babies from frozen transfers have a slightly higher chance of being large for gestational age. In real life, IVF babies come in all sizes, just like other babies. Your growth scans during pregnancy give the clearest picture of how your baby is doing.

I am carrying triplets. Will I definitely deliver before 32 weeks?

Triplet pregnancies often deliver between 32 and 34 weeks, but there is no fixed rule. Some triplet pregnancies reach 35 weeks. Your team will monitor your cervix, uterine activity, blood pressure, and baby growth very closely and will aim to keep the pregnancy going as long as it is safe for you and the babies. Ask your doctor what gestational age they are hoping to reach in your particular case.

Can I do anything to lower my risk of preeclampsia?

You cannot erase the risk entirely, but you can lower it. The main tools are keeping your body weight in a healthy range before pregnancy when possible, checking and treating high blood pressure early, and using low-dose aspirin when your doctor recommends it. IVF pregnancies generally get early and frequent screening for preeclampsia, so your team can step in quickly if problems start.
