Since the introduction of the health reform in 2004 (GMG), the situation of unintentionally childless couples has fundamentally changed. Statutory health insurance companies only pay 50% for all so-called "artificial insemination" procedures. Marriage is a prerequisite for participation in the costs, this was recently confirmed by the Federal Court of Justice (BGH). Further conditions are that the age of the woman must be between 25-40 and that of the man between 25-50. Both partners must be HIV negative, sterilization must not have been carried out beforehand.
