What is IMSI?

IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection) is a success-boosting technique that enables sperm magnification for a more detailed examination in IVF treatments. With the IMSI method, the sperm is magnified up to 8,000 times, while in a routine microinjection procedure, it is only magnified 200 times. Thus, the structural problems the sperm may have are detected; and healthier embryos are formed.

In many countries across the world as well as in our country, the IMSI method is preferred to classical microinjection. Depending on the condition of our patients, we also choose the IMSI method over other methods in our centres. An advanced embryology laboratory and an experienced team are indispensable to the IMSI method. Our expert embryologists use the IMSI method along with many other success-boosting methods in our state-of-the-art embryology laboratory.

When is IMSI used?

Scientific studies show that the IMSI technique results in better embryo development, higher pregnancy rates, and fewer miscarriages. The IMSI technique is an important success-boosting method, especially in the following cases:

• When a sperm-related problem is detected
• When pregnancy is not achieved despite good-quality eggs
• When there is history of recurrent miscarriages
• In cases of unexplained infertility
• In cases of unsuccessful IVF attempts
• In cases of low egg reserve

Is IMSI expensive?

To perform the IMSI technique, the centre necessarily needs to have advanced technological equipment and experienced embryologists. For this reason, it is an expensive practice which is not performed in every centre. The IMSI technique is used in Bahçeci clinics when deemed necessary at no additional cost.
