GREFI – Ponce

GREFI is an acronym in English for Gynecology Endocronology Reproductive Fertility Institute, and was founded in 1991 by Dr. Rosa Ileana Cruz Burgos in San Juan.  Dr. Cruz is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus in 1980. In 1984 she completed her specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospital of Medicine and proceeded to do her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Rutgers Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Today, she is the Director of the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology and Associate Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical Sciences Campus and the School of Medicine in Ponce, PR.  Dr. Cruz is the only physician in Puerto Rico to be dual certified and re-certified by American “Boards” in both disciplines. She has received many awards and honors for excellence in her work and multiple “Doctors Choice Awards” by the Good Life Magazine. Dr. Cruz’s commitment to her profession and patients is described as outstanding. 

GREFI laboratories are members of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART).  Both programs: GREFI/ San Juan, GREFI / Ponce had accreditations from the Prestigious College of American Pathologists (CAP ) from November 2002 until March 2015. GREFI is the only practice in Puerto Rico to have a Certificate of Need for Convenience (CNC) issued by the Assistant Secretary for Regulation and Accreditation of Health Facilities (SARAFS) by the Department of Health to practice IVF. 

Some of the treatments we offer include: Infertility Diagnosis and Treatment (male and female), Semen Analysis, Sperm and Egg Donation, Laparoscopic Surgery, Endometriosis, Fibroids, Congenital Anatomic Variants, ICSI (Intra cytoplasmic Sperm Insemination) PIGD (Pre Implantation Genetic Diagnosis), in vitro fertilization (IVF) and artificial insemination. 

We also have  a specialized Andrology laboratory, Clinical laboratories specializing in hormones, a Sperm Bank, a Bank of Eggs (fresh and frozen), an Embryology laboratory, reproductive microsurgery (female and male), and psychological support for couples. We treat any couples, regardless of age or sexual preference.
