Endometriosis is characterized by the presence of glands and cells similar to endometrial tissues outside of the uterus. Endometriosis can be very painful, especially during the second half and after menstruation. Pain also appears during sex. Endometriosis often leads to infertility. It is a diffuse disease that can affect any part of the body. The frequent recurrence of endometriosis symptoms and late diagnosis often put patients in deep distress.
The gynecological surgeon must treat young patients as early as possible to avoid the risk of infertility and a high-risk operation. Diagnostic laparoscopy is the gold standard. The surgical treatment of endometriosis by laparoscopy should be performed at the same time as the diagnosis. Indeed, the treatment of choice for endometriosis is the destruction of endometriosis implants by laparoscopic surgery, followed by medical treatment.
In our experience of over 800 cases of endometriosis surgery, laparoscopic surgery should be radical and, if necessary, performed in collaboration with digestive surgeons and/or urologists.
