My wife and I came to this clinic as a same-sex couple seeking fertility care a couple of years ago, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing and disheartening.\n\nWhile I (a white woman) was treated professionally, my wife—a woman of color—was not afforded the same respect. There was a clear contrast in the way we were each addressed and acknowledged.\n\nAt one point, we were told our treatment plan involved "timed intercourse," which clearly does not apply to our situation as a lesbian couple. When I asked the nurse to review the doctor's notes again, they insisted they had already done so and responded with condescension rather than care. The nurse talked over me when I tried to explain that timed intercourse would do nothing for my wife and I. We had to advocate for ourselves repeatedly to receive appropriate and informed guidance—something no patient should have to do. The nurse called me back later, never apologized for her rudeness or mistake. And insisted I send our sperm to the clinic. With no plan or schedule in place. I was told to “just ship it here and we’ll figure it out”.\n\nI didn’t trust that plan and we chose a different clinic to go to, one that didn’t tell us to try timed intercourse and actually listened to us and met our needs as a lesbian couple..
